Garfield County, Utah
Garfield County is located in South Central Utah just north of Kane County.
The county was created in 1882 by politicians who's thinking about counties ran from East to West and who did not realize that mountains in the area run from North to South.
This east/west swipe across Southern Utah includes some of the most scenic country on the planet including the Dark Canyons of the Colorado. The bright hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, the unworldly landscape of the Escalante and the inspiring land of Cedar Mountains.
The county was named after President James A. Garfield who was assassinated in 1881.
The county covers 5,208 square miles. The 2010 census showed a population of 5,175. Many fear that the area is getting too crowded and might pass the person per square mile in the near future. The county seat and largest town in the county is Panguitch, Utah
